We LOVE getting updates from the adopted parents of our German Blue Rams! The messages and comments below were all sent to us within a few days to a few weeks upon receiving their blue rams.

Hi CT, First off, the rams are beautiful and doing well. But, I have a question. I received them on Oct 2nd, and one pair already laid eggs that following Sat. Apparently they ate them. Then the other pair laid eggs on the 10th. They lasted longer than the first ones did, but, once again, after hatching I believe the parents ate them. Is there a way I can avoid this? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, John.

The pair I bought from you has been with me only a week and a half now and so far I’ve had 2 spawns and the second has resulted in fry.

Good morning. The rams’ first spawn was successful. They are proving to be great parents. The fry will have their freshly hatched brine shrimp today. Thanks again!

Hi again. The rams I received early this week had their first spawn tonight. You certainly can pick them. The fish are not shy as compared to the bubble rams I took from a store that I sell/trade my angels. I am most impressed with your fish and your honest presentation! Thanks again! Charles.

No problem, had one questions what do you feed the the fry? The rams I got from you have spawned three times already but I am not sure what to feed them. BBS are too big I was thinking liquid fry. Would that be good? What do you feed your fry? I would appreciate al your help. Thanks, Matt.

Wow, they must be happy because they have already spawned this evening! Lots of eggs on a leaf of a red rubin sword that is lying flat on the substrate back in the corner behind the flower pot that they were supposed to use as a cave. Fun! I will have to read up on them just in case they don’t eat them all and any happen to get to the free swimming stage. I am just going to leave them alone in there to see if they figure out what to do. They need to learn to be good parents somehow. Thought I would let you know…..

Just wanted to let you know that I already have a spawning.

Hi i just wanted to give you an update on the pair of Blue rams I bought from you. I have had them for 3 weeks and they are the cutest little fish ever. They have had two spawns one just a few days after they arrived and another one and today they blessed me with another spawn although they have not got all the kinks worked out they are very happy and healthy and are spoiled rotten. The extra fish that you sent I would have sworn it was a female but the other day it was picking on the pair and it turned out to be another male so I had to seperate the single male from the pair buut other than that every thing is great and I still could not be happier with your stock. I am so happy with them I thought I would send you a pic so you can see how well they are doing in the pic they are spawning on a terra cotta pot and in a spot that is hard to get pics but did the best I could to get one for you. I am so very happy with them. they stole my heart once I laid yes on them…

Great fish! Received on a Wednesday, spawned on Sunday; give them a try.

Just wanted to let you know the fish are doing great and two of them have already paired off and spawned! They are currently protecting a batch of at least fifty eggs. I don’t anticipate any survivors seeing as though it’s a community tank and it’s likely their first time spawning, but it shows that they are doing well at least. Thanks for the great fish! James

Hey just wanted to update you. It’s been a week or so since I’ve recieved the rams and the pair already gave birth! Thought it was wierd that they were being so aggressive but then I looked at the rock and saw small eggs. Hopefully this goes well!

No Problem it is well deserved. Thank you for the breeding pair that already started laying eggs an hour ago. Oh my goodness I was not expecting that, this soon.
German Blue Rams form monogamous pairs and their bond lasts a lifetime. We only use the term “pair” when we have a confirmed breeding pair. All the breeding pairs we sell have gone through and passed 3 lengthy confirmation processes to triple-confirm their naturally formed lifelong bond.
Q. My pair is put in the same tank with other German Blue Rams of the same age, how can I tell them apart?
A. You can identify the pair by seeing that they will be clinging to each other, tending the same territory and acting as one unit.
Q. The pair looks young. Are they old enough to breed?
A. While they are young at 3-4 months old, they have just become sexually matured and they are 100% physically ready to spawn and breed. Their readiness is the physical cue that triggers the pair forming activity in the first place, and it would not be possible for them to form pairs and passed the 3 confirmation tests if they aren’t ready.
Q. When will my pair spawn?
A. The exact time that it takes highly depends on their environment, water quality, stress level, space and overall how comfortable they are feeling in their new home. With that said, from our experience as well as our customers’ experiences, usually it’d be within a few weeks depending on their new environment.
Q. How often will my pair spawn?
A. German Blue Rams are the most active in breeding from when they first become sexually mature until about 1 year old, where you can expect spawning a few times every month. The older they get, the less frequent of the spawns. The pairs you received from us are at the best and most active age for breeding as well as for the many months to come, where it’s normal to have at least 1-2 spawns every month.
