German Blue Rams form monogamous pairs and their bond lasts a lifetime. We only use the term “pair” when we have a confirmed breeding pair. All the breeding pairs we sell have gone through and passed 3 lengthy confirmation processes to triple-confirm their naturally formed lifelong bond.
Q. My pair is put in the same tank with other German Blue Rams of the same age, how can I tell them apart?
A. You can identify the pair by seeing that they will be clinging to each other, tending the same territory and acting as one unit.
Q. The pair looks young. Are they old enough to breed?
A. While they are young at 3-4 months old, they have just become sexually matured and they are 100% physically ready to spawn and breed. Their readiness is the physical cue that triggers the pair forming activity in the first place, and it would not be possible for them to form pairs and passed the 3 confirmation tests if they aren’t ready.
Q. When will my pair spawn?
A. The exact time that it takes highly depends on their environment, water quality, stress level, space and overall how comfortable they are feeling in their new home. With that said, from our experience as well as our customers’ experiences, usually it’d be within a few weeks depending on their new environment.
Q. How often will my pair spawn?
A. German Blue Rams are the most active in breeding from when they first become sexually mature until about 1 year old, where you can expect spawning a few times every month. The older they get, the less frequent of the spawns. The pairs you received from us are at the best and most active age for breeding as well as for the many months to come, where it’s normal to have at least 1-2 spawns every month.
